When I saw this post earlier this morning I went looking for a thread I found once in the past which stated something similar to your response, but I've been unable to find it since.

Windows Insider MVP 2017-2020 Microsoft MVP Reconnect 2016 Microsoft MVP Consumer Security 2007-2015 Unified Network of Instructors and Trusted Eliminators (Malware Removal Expert) That would also explain why no detections were found if you performed additional scans with your anti-virus or other security tools. If the detection is determined to be incorrect or a false positive, no action is necessary. If a match is found verifying it as malicious, updated signatures will be downloaded in order to take action on the detection. Suspected threats are automatically submitted to Microsoft's Malware Protection Center server where the file(s) is checked against signature updates in the master database. The initial detection could be due to behavior monitoring, heuristic analysis or an incorrect virus signature in the database. If the Malicious Software Removal Tool's mrt.log file shows clean (no detections found) then it's most likely that MSRT suspected a possible threat during the scan, displayed it as such (infected files) but determined the file(s) were not an actual confirmed threat(s) upon completion. NB: the system and the s/w involved are all 64-bit versions.
What don't I know from the results I have, andĭepending on the answer to that, what if any next steps are indicated? Is it recommended to rerun the MSE complete system scan?ģ. What can I conclude, if indeed I can conclude anything about those two files.Ģ.

I cannot find any way to specifically determine the identity and location of what the MRT tool was reporting when it showed "two infected files" (see image below of screen capture during the same full system scan My question is if the 10/16 MRT said it detected two infected files during the full system scan, but at the end it reported none of the current list of malware was detected, shouldn't the ''infected files'' be detected by the most recent MSE definitions,Ħ4-bit, 1.229.1571.0 (see included "details" tab from that definitions Included is a screen shot of the final window for 10/16 MRT run: The MRT window as the complete system scan was running. The 10/2016 version of the Malicious Software Removal Tool just completed a full system scan, and reported the computer was not infected by any of the malware listed in the "detailed results." This contradicts the report of "two infected files" shown in
